Danni Kneeland – Director

Danni is one of the co-founders of Food Safety Solutions. Prior to founding the company with Jill Binder in 2009 she spent 8 years in a variety of food safety roles in the food industry. Danni has extensive knowledge and hands on experience in all aspects of food safety including operational food safety management, auditing and regulatory compliance. She is a natural trainer and is passionate about teaching; in fact, she facilitates almost all our certified training programs.

Danni loves working with industry leaders to help them build and manage sustainable food safety programs. She is a great project manager, and has lead many companies to successfully attain GFSI certification. Danni excels at helping food businesses navigate the complicated food safety regulatory landscape, and works closely with all of our consultants to help them to achieve their compliance goals. 

Alyssa Brett – Director

Alyssa Brett is co-owner of Food Safety Solutions Inc. and has provided food safety consulting, training and auditing services with FSS since 2017. Originally hailing from the East coast of Canada, Alyssa holds a degree in Dietetics and a postgraduate degree in Food Safety from Memorial University. She has extensive experience in food safety, having worked with a large national brewery, a federal meat plant, and a large produce packing and distribution operation prior to joining FSS. Alyssa has a strong background in GFSI programs, such as SQF – in fact she is a certified SQF Consultant.

Alyssa is also our specialist in organic manufacturing and is a certified organic auditor. Alyssa is passionate about helping new businesses develop food safety programs to meet their unique needs. She enjoys the variety of work that being a consultant and auditor brings and loves learning about different processes and commodities.

Sandra Nesom – Consultant

Sandra joined the Food Safety Solutions Team as a consultant, in 2022.  She has a master’s degree in food science from the University of Alberta and brings with her over 30 years experience of Quality Assurance in the Food Industry!  Currently, Sandra is a trained Internal Auditor for FSSC 22000, BRC and SQF.

Sandra was fortunate enough to be born and raised in central Alberta allowing her to have opportunities to work in the following industries:  beef, poultry, fruits & vegetables, meat retail, soft drinks, alcoholic beverages, juice, bakery and warehousing.

Sandra has the ability to understand the needs and challenges that go along with Food Safety Program Development/Certification, working closely with individuals to help them be successful.

Amy Hosking – Consultant

Amy came to FSS in January 2024 after seven years in the food industry; five of which she was specializing in quality assurance and operations management. She holds a Master’s in Nutrition and Nutraceutical Sciences from the University of Guelph.

Amy brings valuable expertise in frozen desserts and is well-versed in multiple customer standards and industry certifications, including BRCGS, FSSC 22000, Whole Foods Supplier Assurance, Costco, Non-GMO Project Verification, Kosher and Gluten-Free standards.

Since joining FSS, she has broadened her knowledge base to encompass bakery products, plant proteins, beverages, and refrigerated and frozen warehousing and distribution.

Amy is highly adaptable and excels at translating insights from one situation to effectively address challenges in different industries or contexts. Amy takes a hands-on approach, working side by side with clients to help them reach their goals.

Rutuja Patel – Consultant

Rutuja recently joined the Food Safety Solutions team, bringing with her over six years of experience in the food industry. Her educational background includes a Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy, as well as Postgraduate degrees in Food Science Technology and in Regulatory Affairs. She has worked in ready-to-eat foods, bakery, and confectionery, and is now expanding her expertise into the produce sector. Rutuja is well-versed in GFSI programs as well as proprietary standards such as the NSF Supplier Assurance program. She is a natural trainer and is a wonderful addition to our IHA-approved HACCP training team. She especially enjoys supporting clients in expanding their food safety knowledge and confidence.

Rutuja believes the role of the consultant is to help simplify food safety, not make it more complex. She works closely with clients to help them streamline their management systems, ensuring programs are both effective and sustainable. The variety of her work, and learning about new products and processes in the industry is what keeps her motivated and driven.

Ramla Zafar – Consultant

As part of the Food Safety Solutions consulting team, Ramla Zafar brings more than eight years of experience in food safety and quality management across laboratory, food service, and food processing environments. She holds a Masters Degree in Food Safety Management from the University of British Columbia and has a background in microbiology, providing a strong scientific foundation for her work with clients. Ramla has professional experience developing and managing food safety programs from Canada and Pakistan, and has worked with standards such as CanadaGAP, GlobalG.A.P., SQF, BRCGS, and FSSC 22000.

Since joining Food Safety Solutions in 2025, she has expanded her knowledge of internal auditing and animal welfare, applying a practical and methodical approach to every project. Ramla is dedicated to continuous learning and is passionate about helping food and beverage businesses strengthen their programs, achieve certification, and uphold the highest standards of food safety excellence.

Param Malhi – Consultant

As part of the Food Safety Solutions consulting team, Param brings a blend of technical expertise and a genuine passion for helping food businesses thrive. She holds a Bachelors degree in Dairy Science and a Postgraduate Diploma in Food Science and Technology, with hands-on experience across a wide range of sectors including dairy, poultry, ready-to-eat foods, plant-based proteins, tea, coffee, baked goods, and more. Having worked in fast-paced, high-volume food manufacturing environments, Param understands the operational and regulatory challenges that businesses face. She is recognized for her keen attention to detail, efficiency, and commitment to continuous improvement.

Approachable and collaborative, Param works closely with clients to develop practical, tailored solutions that drive success. She takes pride in building lasting relationships and ensuring that every client feels supported and confident in meeting their food safety goals.
