Product Label Consulting
Ensuring food product labels comply with Canadian food labeling regulations is essential for both regulatory compliance and consumer trust. Labels must meet CFIA requirements, including accurate ingredient lists, allergen declarations, nutrition facts, and bilingual labeling. Non-compliance can result in recalls, fines, and damage to a brand’s reputation. Clear and accurate labeling helps consumers make informed choices and supports food safety by providing necessary information.
Imported food products must also meet Canadian labeling regulations before they can be sold in Canada. Even if a product complies with labeling requirements in its country of origin, adjustments may be needed to align with Canadian standards. This includes bilingual labeling, permitted claims, and format requirements for nutrition and ingredient information. Properly reviewing and updating labels ensures imported products can enter the market smoothly and avoid regulatory issues.

Nutrition Facts Table Review
We will verify that your nutrition label contains all mandatory information and that each aspect meets the regulations.
Nutrition label requirements include:
- Adhering to appropriate Nutrition Facts panel size and layout
- Ensuring label claims (e.g., nutrient content claims) comply with nutrient quantity standards and other factors
- Complying with appropriate serving sizes and reference amounts per product type/category
- Ensuring Nutrition Facts panels reflect updated regulations and guidelines

Front of Package Nutritional Symbol Label Compliance Review
Starting in 2026, Canada will require Front-of-Package (FOP) nutrition labeling for prepackaged foods high in saturated fat, sugars, or sodium. This regulation aims to help consumers make informed choices by displaying a clear “High in” symbol on the front of the package when a product exceeds specific thresholds for these nutrients. Some foods, such as whole or single-ingredient items (e.g., raw meat and milk), are exempt.
We will help you
- determine if your products are required to have the new FOP symbol
- review your label artwork for compliance with the new FOP regulations
- choose the appropriate FOP nutrition symbol format for your product
